Dismantle the current structure of FSSA.
Modernizing the eligibility system will save $490 million - which will be reinvested in health care programs for citizens. More than 3,057 Hoosiers moved from waitlists to programs providing needed services.
Child Protection Services.
In 2005, Governor Daniels issued an executive order creating the Department of Child Services. More than 600 new child protection workers have been hired and trained, and an additional 200 will be on the job by July of 2008. They are responsible for child protection, foster care, adoption, independent living and child support services.
Department of Economic Opportunity.
We discovered an outdated public assistance eligibility system, riddled with errors, that had the country's worst welfare to work record. The system is currently being modernized to effectively deliver services. Because of the need for reform of the system and the strict new federal TANF requirements, the best course of action for Hoosiers is to have FSSA include the IMPACT job training program in the modernization effort.
